Frontier and Indigo Partners Sign Starlink Deal Spanning More Than 1,000 Aircraft
Frontier Airlines and other airlines in the Indigo Partners portfolio will install SpaceX's Starlink in-flight connectivity across more than 1,000 aircraft under a deal announced Tuesday. The agreement marks Frontier's first in-flight connectivity service, as the budget carrier does not currently offer Wi-Fi.
The deal spans Indigo Partners, a private equity firm whose portfolio of low-cost airlines includes Frontier as well as Wizz Air in Europe, Volaris in Mexico, JetSMART in South America, and Cebu Pacific in the Philippines. Frontier described the move as part of a broader evolution of its travel experience, alongside decisions to introduce a first class cabin and improve its loyalty program.
Frontier plans to launch its first Starlink-equipped aircraft in early 2027. The airline said it will be the first to use a new passenger access system created by Starlink, introduced alongside the deal. Frontier currently operates around 176 Airbus A320 aircraft in its fleet. The airline did not specify whether the service will be offered free or as a paid product.
Frontier CEO Jimmy Dempsey framed the agreement as an investment in customer-facing services. "We're continuing to invest in the products and services that matter most to our customers," Dempsey said. "Starlink transforms the onboard experience, giving customers the flexibility to work, stream, browse, and stay connected throughout their journey."
Dempsey positioned the connectivity rollout as one of several steps to reshape the airline's offering, citing the planned first class cabin and loyalty program improvements as parallel efforts to evolve the Frontier travel experience.
The next milestone is the launch of Frontier's first Starlink-equipped aircraft in early 2027.
